Is the Zelené pleso green because of the emeralds?

It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Tatras. As per the legend, it received its name from the green spots on its bottom; it should be emeralds. One thing is for sure - you cannot miss this fantastic spot...

Is the Zelené pleso green because of the emeralds?

The atmosphere in the High Tatras is different every day, and this is also the case with the glacial lake in the easternmost valley of the High Tatras. On its southern side, you can see the peak of Malý Kežmarský štít; on the western side, the tower of Jastrabia veža rises. The views of Veľká Svišťovka, Predné and Zadné Jatky, and Bujačí vrch are also like from another universe. If you are a photographer, prepare for endless opportunities to take the best photos.

You can reach Zelené Pleso in about four hours from the Biela Voda bus stop. As a starting point, you can choose Tatranské Matliare or Tatranská Lomnica. This hike can be classified as less challenging despite the slightly longer time. It starts with a gentle climb. After about two hours, the forest turns into a rhombus. The views of the Belianske Tatras or the surface of Zelené Pleso are heaven for your soul.

From Zelené pleso, you can follow the blue sign further to Veľké Biele pleso; it takes about half an hour. Then, follow the blue sign to the Biela voda stop, Tatranská Lomnica, or Tatranské Matliare. As for food and accommodation, you can use all APLEND facilities in Tatranská Lomnica, Starý and Nový Smokovec. Enjoy this beautiful location as much as you can!
