Trail for everybody: Iconic views and great wellness
Autumn also brings a unique vibe to the High Tatras. Nature changes colors in red and gold tones, and the air is full of scents. A walk along the forest trail is quite different from other seasons as if we were in a gallery full of pastel colors.
A good tip for a refreshing hike in this period is the hike to the Rainerova chata from Tatranská Lomnica. Even less experienced tourists and smaller children should be able to do it. We start following the blue tourist sign below the cable car trail. After about one and a half kilometers, we leave this marked trail and turn left towards the Studený potok Waterfalls.
With good visibility, we get incredible views of Lomnický štít and other Tatra mountains. After a hike through the forest with occasional meadows, we reach the bridge over stream Studený Potok, and there they are - waterfalls. Many of them belong to one of the symbols of the High Tatras, along with iconic peaks or chamois. Rainerova chata is less than half a kilometer from here.
A stay at the oldest functional chalet in the Tatras is always an experience—especially the interior, which features a small exhibition of gear, tourist equipment, and skis from past decades. The ancient photos on the walls also add an extra touch to the captivating atmosphere. The snow nativity scene is also well known, but we must wait a few more months for that one to appear again.
We return along the same trail. It's almost 7 kilometers from Tatranská Lomnica, but the hike goes by quickly while we discuss with the other tourists. We are staying at the Kukučka Hotel, whose wooden and stone architecture fits perfectly into the Tatra nature. Yet it is only 500 meters from the railway and bus station.
After the hike, everybody was hungry, so we enjoyed a great dinner at the Olívia Restaurant right in the hotel. We also took advantage of the wellness option for guests staying at the Kukučka Hotel and relaxing for two hours in the wellness area. The Finnish sauna came in handy, like a gift from heaven.
