Tips on where to eat in Tatras

Which dishes come to your mind when you think of our mountains? Maybe potato dumplings, pies, steaks, or even homemade sweet buns? Whether you are visiting Tatras for hiking, skiing or enjoying a relaxing stay, there is always this dilemma - how and where to eat. We probably have a different idea of an ideal dish, but the range of Tatra hotels, restaurants, bistros, and stalls is vast nowadays. It combines traditional Slovak dishes with modern culinary trends and influences. So if you expect to eat sheep cheese „bryndza“ gnocchi or, for example, something from the Mediterranean or Thai cuisine, your dream will come true.

October is associated with traditional duck and goose feasts, which you will also find in Tatra restaurants. This year is no different; restaurants offer these meat delicacies and matching side dishes in many ways. Delicacies typical for autumn can enhance the experience of a beautiful mountain environment and allow us to view the surrounding scenery of peaks or mountains, which many of us look forward to all year round.

A good tip is Olívia Restaurant in Tatranská Lomnica. It is a modern mountain-type restaurant located on the ground floor of the Kukučka Hotel. Its interior resembles a mountain chalet, but the seating area is comfortable. On the menu, among the appetizers, one finds soft duck pate with homemade blueberry jam and ciabatta, and among the main dishes, confit duck leg on cabbage puree with homemade traditional dumpling from Karlovy Vary

If you long for old-time classics, this restaurant offers traditional sheep cheese „bryndza“ potato dumplings with homemade fried bacon and chives or homemade potato dumplings with duck meat served on cabbage puree with crispy onions. Plum and poppy seed cakes with fruit yogurt are perfect as desserts. To warm you up, they have, for example, a hot Tatra Mojito, which is always available on the winter menu. Younger guests can have sea buckthorn hot lemonade with orange and ginger.
