Hiking MUST-HAVES
If you're going on a hike, there are a few things you should definitely pack, as they say luck favours the prepared. We've highlighted a few must-have items that should definitely not be missing from your hiking backpack.
1. Map, GPS, or mobile app - No matter what route you choose, planning is essential. Whether you're a fan of classic maps, GPS devices, or modern apps, the key is knowing where you're going, what the distance is, and how long it will take you to get there.
2. Compact first aid kit - A small first aid kit like this can be a lifesaver. You never know when you'll need a patch or bandage, so always keep it handy.
3. Plenty of water - Hydration is key during a hike. It is recommended to carry at least 1.5 liters of water per person. And especially in the summer months, you need to make sure to drink 2 times as much.
4. A small snack for the trail - When hunger or fatigue hits you during a hike, a small snack, like an energy bar or fruit, is a great way to recharge your batteries.
5. SPF factor - Don't forget sunscreen, no matter what the weather is like outside. Protecting yourself from the sun is important, especially if you're out in the mountains all day.
6. Raincoat - Weather in the mountains can be pretty unpredictable, so a raincoat is never a bad idea. Although the weather may look promising, a sudden downpour can always take you by unpleasant surprise.
And this way, you'll be 100% prepared for any hike. So backpack on your back and get outdoors!
