In 1876, the first sanatorium was established, which helped many patients suffering from tuberculosis and respiratory diseases thanks to its climatic treatment.

 

Nový Smokovec, which was also founded in 1876, was not only a place of treatment, but also a symbol of Dr. Szontagh's innovative thinking. His vision significantly changed the Tatra Mountains. Later, Mikuláš Szontagh the Younger was a continuation of his father's activities, in 1914 he expanded the Villa into the present "Villa Dr. Szontagh". Szontagh the younger also participated in the further significant development of Nový Smokovec and the construction of cure-houses due to the critical boom of tuberculosis in Europe.

 

Today, this historic jewel is cared for by the Vrábel family, who continue the tradition of hospitality and care started by the Szontagh family. Now Villa of Dr. Szontagh joins the APLEND family of hotels, and these traditions will be proudly continued.
